싱가폴의 과일들!

지리적으로 열대 지방에 위치한 싱가포르에서는 다양한 과일을 접할 수 있다. 물론 이러한 대부분의 과일들은 인근 국가인 말레이시아나 태국, 필리핀 등지에서 수입되지만 수많은 관광객으로 인해 싱가포르는 그 어느 국가보다 열대과일의 특수를 누리기에 더없이 적합한 곳이다. 싱가폴 과일들에 함유된 과육과 당분의 함량은 평균 이상이라 볼 수 있지만 사과와 배, 수박 등은 한국의 과일들과 비교해 볼 때 당분과 식감이 떨어지는 것들도 있다. 그렇기 때문에 과일을 선택할 시에는 열대 과일들을 접하는 것이 현명하다. 망고스틴과 람부탄, 리치, 롱간으로 대표되는 열대과일들은 단단한 껍질을 가지고 있기 때문에 뜨거운 태양속에서 당분을 농축시키기에 최적의 과일들이다. 줄기에 매달린채로 한 가지씩 판매되는 롱간을 먹다보면 시간가는 줄 모를 수도 있다. 다만, 한번에 다량의 열대과일을 섭취하는 배탈을 유발 할 수 있으니 주의할것! 또한 한국에서 값비싸게 판매되는 열대과일들의 가격을 현지에서 비교해 보는 것도 흥미로운 일이다.  

Dragon Fruit

With its fuchisa-pink skin, magnifice flowers and delicious taste, this fruitis best eaten chilled. Cut the fruit in half and enjoy the white, tender flesh, which is midly sweet and low in calories.

Lychee

The outside is covered by a red, roughly-textured skin that is inedible but easily removed. The inside consists of a layer of sweet, transluent white flesh, which is rich in vitamin C.

Seed cannot be eaten.

Rambutan

Derived from a Malay word meaning 'hair' as can be depicted on the outer layer of the fruit. To eat, peel away the rind and enjoy the firm white flesh. Seed cannot be eaten.

Longan

An oval shape fruit with hairy and dull green-brown skin. The texture of the fruitis soft with flavours of mixed strawberry banana and pineapple.

Green pear

Fragrant, juicy and sweet! Pears are a fine source of vitamin C and supply twice as much fibre as a piece of whole wheat bread.

Mango

Almost oval in shpape with smooth soft skin. The juice of the mango is delicately refreshing. Can be halved and eaten with a spoon or peel the skin and slice the fruit in small slices.

Green Apple

Rich in vitamins, minerals and fibres to keep you strong, fit and healthy!
