A scenic zone in Beijing China, Schahai

It is called Schahai, Shanhai or Sbanhai.
It is located in Shidaje in Dianmeon and there is Beihai Park across it and it is the center of narrow and long Chenhai, Heouhai and Shihai Lake.
Schahai area is the scenic spot and residential area which shows the old characteristics and traditional aspect of Beijing most out of Beijing inner castles.
Based on backstreets, private houses, Wangpu and old residence of famous people you can enjoy various dishes, amusements and cultures.

Recommended course in Schahai for free traveler!

Schahai where long history of Beijing is breathing and the life of ordinary people is preserved as it is.
This is the place where tradition and modern times are mingled and new grace and taste for the art are formed and is the tourist attraction you should necessarily go to in Beijing and it is one of the courses which we want to recommend to the people who travel freely with backpack.

Schahai tour time is good to be determined as a half-day course in the afternoon.

Tip
In Nanmeon there are two kinds of Hweogue.
①Big Hweogue made of brass with the method of heating water putting charcoal in the center
②Personal Hweogue whose splendid traditional decoration attracts the eyes
Usually when you go to Shabu-Shabu restaurant there are two kinds which are hot taste and clear soup but here they have only one that is clear soup. 

The soup made from minimum materials such as ginger and the fruit of a Chinese matrimony vine means that they are confident in freshness and tastes of food materials.
Put meat broth in the pot looks like Royal Hot Pot in the center of which charcoal is put and when it is boiled, slightly put thin-sliced-like-paper lamb which is the produce of Inner Monglia-Shiringueoro and noodles, vegetables and mushrooms are put to  be cooked to eat.

Recommended course 1. “Rickshaw Tour” which makes you feel flavor of the backstreets of Beijing

In Schahai area, numerous rickshaws are waiting but courses or prices are various.
Therefore negotiation is what each of you should do.
If you want to look around listening to professional explanation on Schahai area you can get help of guide staffs in the information center (010-6657-0584) of Schahai area but to try to do true travel of the spot meeting local people freely as much as you like not being restricted by other people might be also good. 
To look around the private homes of them who are sticking to Sahapwon even now in “Hutong” where real Rao Beijing people are living and Beijing which is changed modernly and to drop by famous restaurants in backstreets which have history of hundreds of years and feel true Robukkyung’s taste might be true travel out of real travels. 
Sahapwon which is likely to fall down in the backstreets, long time and many stories look like being in there.
They say that on the roof tile on the ordinary roof, and through the gate in the entrance and gate decoration they can know the status of the owner of the house.

Recommended course 2. Traditional boating enjoyed in Jeonhae & Huhae located in the city center is the highlight of Schahai sightseeing-traditional ferryboat riding is the strongly recommended course.

While boatman is rowing a ferryboat if you taste delicate cup of green tea listening to Chinese traditional musical instrument-Pipa or Gojaeng performance you can have subtle feeling.
We strongly recommend you to ride at night rather than in daytime!
As darkness begins to come, bars around the lake light the colorful lamps so unlike the feeling of calm lake you see in daytime, the lake you view at night gives completely different feeling.

Though this is a course somewhat unfamiliar to the people who travelled, it is a course which the people who chose free sightseeing should not omit!!
